This opening paragraph is just a brief explanation of Titus Andronicus, Titus Andronicus is a tragedy by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written between 1588 and 1593, probably in collaboration with George Peele. It is thought to be Shakespeare’s first tragedy, and is often seen as his attempt to emulate the violent and bloody revenge plays of his contemporaries, which were Kextremely popular with audiences throughout the sixteenth century.

The most obvious theme in Titus Andronicus is revenge, this essay is about how William Shakespeare explores the idea of revenge in Titus Andronicus and also the use of language foe example, Dramatic Irony, Imagery and the use of Rhetorical question to build up the intenseness of revenge within his (William Shakespeare)

The use of revenge in Titus Andronicus is of a quite well planned and high standard which means it is almost compulsory to get revenge on someone who has done something to you in the past or could be planning to do something to you in the future and feel the need to get them back a lot worse for example; Demetrius and Chiron raped and mutilation of Lavinia and then Titus Andronicus tryed to kill them but ended up killing everyone in the process, I will also highlight many other Language devices and types of revenge through out this essay.

As I said in paragraph 1 revenge in Titus Andronicus is almost never endin, which to me seems like William Shaksepeare has somethiing to prove when it comes to revenge so he could be sending a strong message out to people saying he wanted to get revenge on a certain someone or certain something.

The type of language William Shakespeare uses is quite intense and can build up a lot of speculation about what is going to happen next, because he always has a different type of revenge for example Saturinus makes Titus Andronicus chop off his hands so that he could no longer rule Rome and could get his sons heads back but as I stated earlier Lavinia had been raped and also had her hands and tounge cut off so she could not tell her father Titus Andronicus or anyone else who raped her so then they could get away with it and then towards the end of the play Titus Andronicus topped it all off by killing everyone with a pie that killed everyone.

You have to use imagery when reading any sort of text, not just plays or poems, so when William Shakespeare describes a scene of revenge or any sort of scene for that matter your have to use imagery to be able to “put the pieces together” and it also gives the play a bit more tension and engages the reader because they can basically see what the charcters in the play are trying

Shakespeare also uses emotive language to show the reader of the text that because it is a dramatic scene you have to use to emotive to language to show the reader that the characters are enthusiastic for what is about to happen.           Who is this? My niece that flies away so fast?.

CHARACTER ANALYSIS

Titus Andronicus is a war hero who has just returned to Rome after a battle against the  so called Goths. Titus gets into a vicious cycle of revenge with the Queen of the Goths (Roman Empress) that culminates in an act of cannibalism

Tamora is the Queen of the Goths who turned Roman Empress. After Titus ritually sacrifices her eldest son, Tamora makes it her mission in life to make Titus and his family upset. She makes happen this through her pretty looks, sensuality, and ability to manipulate those around her.

When Shakespeare uses revenge in Titus Andronicus I believe that he is trying to show that revenge can be used in very serious matters for example the Emperor says he will spare Titus andronicus’s sons but only if Titus Andronicus cuts of both of his own hands, so Titus does as the Emperor says and cuts of both of his own hands. But the Emperor does not spare Titus Andronicus sons and sends both of their heads back but with no body attached to the heads. Which kind of tells me that Sir William Shakespeare is saying revenge can cost people lives and also cost the lives of people you love and care about very very much indeed.

The word “revenge” in the modern day life tells people that something very bad is about to happen, for example someone says to me “he said he is going to get revenge” for something bad that I did to him or someone he loves or cares about it tells me that he is going to get me back which could be a warning for me to “keep a look out”. Revenge in modern day life also is a sign of danger because of the violence in the world there is so much that the person who is seaking revenge could use for example a knife or a gun….

In sonnet 140 it does not really contain revenge but there are hints that someone could be thinking evil thoughts. It is also it is does appear however something is stirring revenge. And get someone back. This is evident because this because Shakespeare writes “Now this ill-wresting world is grown so bad” in the play Titus Andronicus there is an unholy amount of revenge and as I said there is revenge actually being used. That is the only real pieces of revenge that you can compare within the play Titus Andronicus and Sonnet 140
