Essay: Isolation

This essay will be about how Kafka presents ideas about isolation within part 2 of metamorphosis.

Early in The Metamorphosis we learn that gregor wants to quit his job and be free of his family rules but as he turned into a bug easily toke care of this problem for gregor. Gregor’s physical isolation from the normal world in his room speaks to his general isolation from the modern world that me and you see everyday his father expects him to work hard and find a wife. even though the fact that he’s finally accomplished his wish.

Gregor is full with feelings of guilt and shame at being literally a different species to his family. Gregor’s retreat from human society causes him just as much unhappiness, if not more, than when he was an average member of modern day society. In the bleak world of the novella, happiness is impossible because the needs of the individual and society are irreconcilable yet equally compelling.

If you watch the film it is clear that Gregors home and bedroom is a very dark place and if you compare that to the modern times it is quite clear he isolated for example a prison is also very dark and has does not have much space to move around
